Thanksgiving

We went to American Fork for Thanksgiving break. We played with Garrett's nephews, Caleb and Andrew, and Garrett's sister and brother-in-law, Michele and Mike. They were only visiting her side of the family for a couple days so that's initially why we decided to go up there earlier than we were planning. It was pretty laid back that first Tuesday night, we just had yummy dinner (again free, we love that) and watched the movie "Get Smart'", which most of us had already seen. The next morning I took Garrett to work and went back to our apartment to try to work on one of my papers.

That morning, my sister texted me so I called her and found out that my Uncle Robby died the previous night. I had a hard day because I was alone all day trying to work on my paper, but I couldn't think about anything besides my uncle and how hard and awful death is. It's not awful for those who've died, but it is pretty sad for the rest of us. I'm especially sad for Robby's family, he wasn't married so I'm talking about his parents (my grandparents) and siblings (including my dad). One super weird thing was that one of my dad's other brothers died the exact same way only twenty-something years ago. Danny was crossing the highway 301 and got hit by an oncoming car. He may have been on a bike, but my uncle Robby was walking. Either way, that's really eerie. And sad.

The thing I kept thinking though was how grateful I am for the knowledge of the Gospel. I know that people still exist after death and we will be with them too once we die. And death is so not the end. I'm really grateful for that.

Anyway, I'm still pretty sad about that and my tolerance for watching death occur on tv or in movies has dramatically decreased, but at least I don't believe death is the end.

For the actual Thanksgiving day we went to Garrett's aunt's house with some of their other family members and just ate and relaxed mostly. On Friday we went shopping, which I discussed in the previous post, and we saw a movie (that I cried through because people kept dying). And then on Saturday I went wedding dress shopping with Carol and her sisters (which she talks about on her blog. She even found THE dress for her wedding, it's really cool-looking). On Sunday we took these silly Brady Bunch style pictures for our kitchen wall and played with our new laptop and video chat and I talked to my relatives in Maryland (where Robby lived).

It was a nice break from school and I think it left us a little more energized for the rest of the semester. However, it also may have made us a little lazier too because now the end is in sight. Either way, Thanksgiving was mostly fun.
