Garrett has a construction management class project that he has heard scary things about. The assignment is to follow plans and build a model of a house out of thick posterboard paper. It is an end-of-the-semester project and so he's heard from students who've already taken the class that this project is killer and takes a really long time. So Garrett was a little worried about it.
There was only one problem. Every time he read the instructions or looked at completed projects from previous semesters, Garrett could not understand what made this project so difficult. He said one day he studied the completed house models really intently, and he still could not figure out what was so hard about getting it done.
So recently, we went to the craft store to buy all the supplies and we learned that that was not the hard part. Then he went to class and volunteered his poster for the professor to demonstrate how to draw the foundation plans on and so that part was not hard either. (In fact, Garrett learned later that the professor even drew them a little wrong, so he corrected the problem. Garrett's such a smarty, huh.) Anyway, as he's been outlining and cutting out the walls, he hasn't thought that part has been tricky either. They do have to make each piece the right shape and size and then the roof has to be laid on at the proper angle as well, but that hasn't been bad either.
He's working really hard on it and it's all been pretty simple. He's not finished yet, but we're happy because it has not been as bad as he thought it might be. Or maybe he's just a genius. I'll post the finished product once it exists. And for now, here's my cute husband working hard.
